FOUNDER STORY
From prep cook to chef to software builder
At 18, I started working in banquets as a prep cook and did not even know what parsley was. Over the years, I learned kitchen operations from the ground up, worked across the different stations of a restaurant, grew into a chef role, and gained firsthand experience managing high-volume banquet execution and multi-million-dollar food operations. That background shaped how I think about prep, production, food cost, pricing, inventory, and event workflow — and ultimately led me to build Food Cost Calculator.
Later, I also moved into software development. Food Cost Calculator came out of that journey: the kind of system I know would have helped me earlier on by keeping costing, prep, pricing, inventory, and event work more connected and easier to manage day to day.
WHY I BUILT IT
Because food operations need more than disconnected tools
I built Food Cost Calculator to solve a problem I understood firsthand: important kitchen and catering work is often managed in too many separate places.
Costing might live in one spreadsheet. Prep notes in another. Inventory in a clipboard count. Event planning in separate paperwork. Pricing decisions in memory or rough math. That separation creates extra work, missed visibility, and too much room for guesswork.
